What do I need to bring to class?
Here's a list of required items for each different level swim class:
All levels:
Parent/Child:
Beginning Swim:
Lap Swim:
Little Flippers and Jr. Select: Our pre-competitive classes
These required items can be purchased in our Office/Pro Shop. NOTE: we DO NOT have a "lost and found", nor do we bring wet items up to the office/Pro Shop area. If you leave something behind, it's best to come back immediately and retrieve the item.
All levels:
- Towels. We do NOT furnish towels. You must bring your own.
- No flotation suits, floaties or vests are allowed. We are trying to teach our swimmers safety skills in the event they fall in or jump in. These devices can give a false sense of security. We encourage you to use them at other times, but not in swim class.
- Swim masks: We are trying to teach proper breathing techniques. A swim mask does not allow us to teach this to a new swimmer. We need our swimmers to know what to do if water gets up their noses.
Parent/Child:
- Swim diaper. This is the most important item to bring. Disposable swim diapers are fine, as are reusable. The best protecting is doubling up with a disposable swim diaper under a reusable swim diaper. DO NOT USE A REGULAR DIAPER! It will explode in the pool.
- A parent in a swimsuit. Yes, you must be in the pool with your child in a parent/child class. Both parents can get in, but if only one is in the pool, the other must stay in the lobby. You can't sit on deck and watch. Our younger swimmers don't understand why their mommies and daddies can't be on deck too. Thank you for your understanding on this!
Beginning Swim:
- Child must be in a regular swimsuit that fits well. No flotation suits are allowed because that impedes our ability to teach the necessary skills. Swim shirts and swim shoes are NOT required. Girls may be more comfortable in a one-piece suit or a tankini; boys just need trunks.
- If your child is not securely potty trained, or is newly potty trained, a swim diaper is required. Potty accidents can close our pool, so please err on the side of caution.
- Goggles: We start using goggles in the beginning swim level. Swim masks that cover the nose are not permitted because we are trying to teach your child proper breathing techniques. For your conveniece, we sell a wide range of goggles in our Pro Shop/Office. We are happy to help you with your selection to get a proper fit.
- Swim caps are optional, however, if your swimmer has long hair, it should be pulled back and secured in a ponytail or a braid. Long hair can be a distraction for swimmers.
Lap Swim:
- Same requirements as Beginning Swim.
- Fins: Some classes will need floating fins as our swimmers' skills develop. Your teacher will tell you if your swimmer needs a pair. We sell the fins in our Office/Pro Shop. It's best to buy them here to ensure that you get the right kind of fin.
Little Flippers and Jr. Select: Our pre-competitive classes
- Swimsuit, towel and goggles (as in the Beginning Swim level). Often our swimmers prefer competitive swimwear at this level, like one piece racing type suits for girls and jammers/briefs for boys. These are not required, but are definitely recommended.
- Fins: We require fins for our Little Flippers and Jr. Select classes as a training tool for advanced skills. We sell them in our Office/Pro Shop. Put names on fins in case you lose them or leave them.
- Swim cap: While we don't require swimcaps, this is a great time for your swimmer to begin wearing one. Besides containing the hair, a swim cap will help goggles stay in place while learning more advanced strokes and skills.
These required items can be purchased in our Office/Pro Shop. NOTE: we DO NOT have a "lost and found", nor do we bring wet items up to the office/Pro Shop area. If you leave something behind, it's best to come back immediately and retrieve the item.
