Parents:
Please read this email in its entirety! There is a lot of information presented here, and we want to be sure you don’t miss any of it!
First of all, a huge thank you to all of our parents who sent us such supportive messages while we have been sheltered in place! We really appreciate your continued support and understanding while we all figure out our next steps!
In order to salvage our Spring Quarter for our swimmers, Sea Star is now ready to operate on a modified program. Every business has had to make modifications, and we must make some as well to incorporate social distancing and proper group sizes to our format. In other words, we are making significant changes to our class schedules in an effort to serve our customers while still enforcing safety of our students and staff.
We will begin teaching our modified session on Monday, May 11. The session will run through Saturday, July 11. This will cover the entire 9 week session for which you registered.
Some of you may have concerns about coming to swim classes at this time. We completely understand and we know it is a personal decision based off of what is best for you and your family. For that reason, if you choose not to participate in this Spring Quarter, we will be happy to credit your tuition to our next “normal” session. Please remember that Sea Star DOES NOT offer refunds, so this credit will remain on your account until you use it. Understand that if there are differences in fees for the next session, you will be responsible for paying that difference.
Before you commit, be sure to read the next section regarding our Modified Plan to ensure that the class time changes will work with your schedule. Do not condition your acceptance on a request to move to a different time. Initially we will be unable to make changes to the schedule as we present below. If you can't make it work, we suggest you opt out for now. We appreciate your understanding! Please email us ASAP with your decision of whether your family wishes to start the week of May 11 or if you prefer us to credit your enrollment to a future session. Just respond briefly to this email to be included; please do not comment further so we can efficiently process these responses of the over 500 students enrolled in this session. A "Yes, we are in" or "No, please credit". DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE; EMAIL YOUR RESPONSE ONLY! We need your response by email than May 6th. Based on your responses, we will move students from our wait list to fill any vacancies on May 6th.
How We Will Proceed—Sea Star’s Modified Plan
The following information is how we have modified our schedule to fit the CDC guidelines. Please note that some classes have not changed, while others have changed drastically. We know that many of you are still working from home and your swimmers are out of school, so we hope these changes will be something you can work into your schedule. If you cannot, we will credit your account for our next “normal” session.
Our normal schedule is based around the Sumner County School calendar. Since that is not an issue right now, we plan to move some of our larger, more advanced classes to times when we have fewer swimmers in the pool. We have also adjusted times for our evening classes to work with our modified schedule. This will allow us to practice social distancing while still achieving our goals of providing your swimmers the excellence in education you have come to expect. At this point, if you cannot come to your new class time 30 minutes earlier, we suggest you opt out of the session. Right now we have no room to change your class time back to the original time. Here is our schedule:
Morning classes: Monday – Thursday from 9:30-12: All classes will report at the previously scheduled time (no time changes).
Evening Classes: (Monday-Thursday). Beginner and Lap Swim ONLY: All classes will report 30 minutes earlier than originally scheduled. Here is how it will work
Little Flippers and Barracudas: These classes will be combined and will change times. Classes will be assigned on a first come, first served basis depending on allotment of students. When you email to confirm that you will participate in the Spring Quarter, please indicate your preferred time on the day you were originally reserved. However, please understand that we cannot guarantee that you will get your preferred time, so please be flexible. Our necessary goal is equal distribution of students in each class. Here is the schedule:
Stroke and Conditioning: This class will meet on Saturday from 11-12 (no change)
Jr. Select: Jr. Select will meet from 2:15-3:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Saturday classes: These are the most complicated in our schedule.
Here is how we will handle these:
New Rules for Sea Star classes
To remain in compliance with the social distancing and other safety guidelines furnished by the CDC and the Tennessee Pledge, we will enforce new rules at our facilities. If you feel you cannot comply with these rules, we will credit you for a future session. These rules will be strictly enforced so we may remain open for business. If any staff members ask you to leave or gives you direction, please do not take it personally. We are just following our safety guidelines for everyone’s protection.
FOR THOSE WHO OPT NOT TO ATTEND—No worries!:
We completely understand your decision. Be sure to email us by the May 6th deadline (just respond to this email) so we may properly credit your account. We will send you an email prior to the next open enrollment period so you can have “dibs” on your regular class day and time.
Again, we thank all of our Sea Star families for being so patient during this quarantine. Who knew when we left for Spring Break that we’d be closed for SIX WEEKS! It’s been a challenge for everyone, as parents have become teachers and have had to find ways to keep the kids entertained all this time. We hope most of you are ready to get back into the swim of things; for those who aren’t, we hope to see you very soon.
Please respond with your decision on whether or not to attend our modified Spring Quarter (May 11-July 11) by May 6th.
Thank you for your continued patronage. We love our Sea Star families and can’t wait to see you again!

- The locker room is CLOSED. Bring your child dressed in a swimsuit and have your towel or something to pull on quickly after class once you reach your vehicle. Locker rooms will be open for toilets and handwashing only; showers will be closed. Parent/Child classes will not be allowed to change diapers on deck; wait until you get to your vehicle to change.
- STAY HOME IF YOU OR YOUR CHILD ARE SICK!: If your child is coughing, has a fever, or any other symptom of the coronavirus or any other disease, he/she will not be allowed to participate in class. This will be at the sole discretion of the teacher and is not up for negotiation. Swimmers who are members of vulnerable populations, including those with underlying health conditions, are strongly encouraged to check with their doctor prior to choosing to attend class.
- Do not bring your child to class if you or any member of your family has tested positive for covid-19. We cannot risk the health of our staff or other swimmers.
- To maintain social distancing and limit our group to below 10 people, only one parent/adult will be allowed to bring the swimmer inside the facility to take your child to the pool deck. Our lobby will be a pass-through area only; parent/adult must return to their vehicle to wait during class. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO WAIT IN THE LOBBY OR ON THE DECK TO OBSERVE CLASS. Keep an eye on the time and be prepared to retrieve your child on time. EXCEPTION: A parent of a child 4 and under may remain in the lobby to assist the child in the bathroom if necessary. Please observe the 6 foot social distance protocol and wear a mask. There will be no chairs or tables in the lobby; you will be required to stand during the entire class. (Please note that the staff will be notified of all swimmers’ ages, so if your child is not on the list, you will be asked to return to your car.)
- Siblings will NOT be allowed to enter the facility, even when you are bringing your child inside. No exceptions.
- The Pro Shop/Office will remain closed at this point. We may reopen later in the session, but for at least the first few weeks, we will be closed.
- Please work with your swimmer about coughing in the elbow and not spitting during class. Our staff needs to remain healthy to serve everyone.
- Your child may have a different teacher from time to time. Again, be flexible!
- Please observe all other suggestions by the CDC and other local, state and governmental authorities.
