Guidelines
for Parents
We
are very happy that our swim school is a busy and exciting place
to be. In a continuing effort to ensure that we have a safe
environment, the staff would like to ask ALL PARENTS to help us
while lessons are in progress and during transition times between
classes.
1. Parents MUST wait in the lobby area while your child takes his/her
class. This helps all of our students—especially younger children
who cannot understand why Johnny’s mother can sit on the deck and
his mother can’t. Cell phones ringing and younger siblings
throwing pool toys into the water cause a huge distraction.
The only exception is if the teacher asks you to stay with your
child.
2. Payment in full for classes is required at the time you
enroll your child. We cannot add your child to the class roster
to "hold" a class; it will not be reserved until this
payment is received. Please bring some method of payment the
day you enroll. We accept cash, checks, Visa or Mastercard.
3. Please monitor younger siblings who may not be enrolled
in the class. It only takes a moment for an unsupervised child
to fall in the pool. DO NOT allow children who are not enrolled
to walk into the pool area to use the bathroom or for any other
reason without adult supervision.
4. Please do not allow children to play on the steps
leading to the pool office or the Pro Shop. Please remember
that this is a place of business, and people come in and out of
these areas all day long and need to use the steps to get there.
5. Because our lobby and our Pro Shop are very high traffic
areas, especially in the afternoons and evenings, please ensure
that your children behave properly and respectfully of others.
No running, screaming, jumping, and roughhousing, please.
6. Do not bring food or drinks into the pool or dressing
room areas. We understand that your swimmers might be hungry or
thirsty after class; however, food consumption in a wet area is
very unsanitary and difficult to manage. Please be considerate of
others and wait until you reach the lobby before you accommodate
their needs.
7. Please leave strollers and carriers in your cars.
It is far too easy for children to trip and fall around this kind
of equipment.
8. Some parents mistakenly promise their child that they
won’t have to do something at swim lessons before they arrive.
The better way? Call and discuss the problem with your child’s
teacher. Often, the teacher has information
about your child in the water that you cannot perceive. Let’s
be a team for your child!
9. If you need to discuss a problem with your child’s
teacher, please call the office and schedule a conference.
Please do not interrupt class or ask a prolonged series of questions
when you get your child out of the pool after swim class.
This disrupts the continuity of the next class. Please have
the same consideration for other parents’ schedules that you would
expect for yourself.
Suggested
Supplies for New Students
Our observations while teaching young children to swim and enjoy
water activities has led us to compile a list of recommended supplies
for our young swimmers. These items are available for purchase
at our Pro Shop, located off the main lobby.
- A
comfortable swimsuit that fits well. For girls, straps should
not continually slip off the shoulders.
- Swim
diapers (required for infants and toddlers)
- Swim
caps - Swim caps keep hair out of the eyes and help the body retain
heat in the water.Required
for Little Flippers and Barracudas.
- Fins—Required
for Little Flippers and Barracudas and some lap swim classes.
- Swim
goggles - Goggles are a MUST for all swimmers, especially for
young children whose eyes may be sensitive to the chemicals used
to disinfect the pool.
Most
of these items are available in our Pro Shop.
Refund
Policy
Sea Star Swim School does not offer refunds after you enroll and
attend your first class.
Makeup
Policy for Missed Classes
Sea Star Swim School DOES NOT OFFER "make-up" classes
for missed lessons or swim team workouts. We do not offer
"make-up" classes for lessons where a substitute teacher
has been called into a class. Our staff is here to serve you
every day. Please do your best to attend each scheduled class.
The exception to this is when we are forced to cancel a swim class
due to inclement weather. Check the lobby for the scheduled
make-up date; this will be the only makeup session available.
It is a good idea to contact the pool office before coming whenever
there is severe weather in our area.
How
Parents Can Be Involved
Parents play an integral part of a child’s success when undertaking
a new skill like swimming. Positive reinforcement can
work wonders in building your child’s self-esteem and confidence.
Our experienced staff wants to work with you to make your child’s
swimming experience the beginning of a life long enjoyment
of the sport. Swimming is a year round activity. Besides
swim classes, Sea Star Swim School has a number of other programs
available for children who wish to stay active in the water all
year, including Middle Tennessee Swim Club.
Middle
Tennessee Swim Club
For our more advanced swimmers, we offer Middle Tennessee Swim Club.
MTSC is a year-round competitive swim team. The athletes compete under
the auspices of USA
Swimming and its“Local Swim Committee” (LSC), Southeastern
Swimming . The USA Swimming national program is the most
organized amateur sports body in our nation, and is careful to provide
fair and positive competition.
